Ukulele
Uke-Tastic!
I got hold of my first ukulele many moons ago and it was an old banjo ukulele, kind of like the ones lying around many homes in a post-formby era. After struggling to tune it (stretchy strings) and then tracking some chords down (pre-internet!) I managed to get a few songs out of it…
A few years later I got hold of a nice wooden uke and played that a lot, that’s when it all started to get serious! I then got an ovation uke which was a joy to play and then caught a full case of ‘UAS’ or Ukulele Aquisition Syndrome as it’s known. I have loads now, some rare and some not so rare although my favourites are the resonator ukuleles from National, Beltona, Ohana and a beautiful handmade uke by John Alderson of Delta Resonator Guitars.
There’s loads of resources if you want to learn, plus it’s a fun little instrument. It’s great company for travelling as well as playing it at big gigs too!
There’s some good places online you can find out more, here’s one of the best:
Good place for info and to make some uke friends and find out about events and festivals around the place (and planet).
